TRACERY is work made in response to the remarkable lace collection archived in the Museo del Merletto in Burano & Palazzo Mocenigo,Venice
The aesthetic language of lace and cartography intertwine in interpretations and reiterations of 'imparaticci', the paper patterns used by the hands of lace-makers from Burano for centuries. Here translated into Ordnance Survey maps of the Lake District and other places they encompass the beauty & fragility of lace itself & the intimate stories of life told therein.
'I would endeavour to trace the lines of this image before it be for ever lost, and to record,as far as I may, the warning which seems to be to be uttered by every one of the fast-gaining waves, that beat, like passing bells, against the Stones of Venice.' John Ruskin
